2017-02-02

During his visit at the GTT Headquarter in France, Admiral Paul Thomas, assistant commandant for prevention policy, presented on behalf of the Secretary of Homeland Security, the U.S. Coast Guard Meritorious Public Service Award to Aziz Bamik, General manager of GTT North America. This award is one of the highest public service awards issued by the Coast Guard.

Spearheading GTT North America involvement in many activities that have contributed to the success of emerging LNG challenges in North America, Aziz Bamik has been recognized as a leading advocate for the safe, clean, and viable transport and use of liquefied gases within the maritime industry. GTT North America has specially contributed to the safe design and operation of the first U.S. LNG bunker barge “Clean Jacksonville”, and has managed the training of the Coast Guard personnel dedicated to liquefied gas operations in ports throughout the country.

“I humbly accept this award on behalf of the GTT team who has been and remains a long standing partner of the Coast Guard’s efforts to provide a foundation for safe maritime LNG operations,” Aziz Bamik said. “With the growing number of LNG export facilities coming on stream and new applications such as LNG as fuel, GTT will continue to work closely with the Coast Guard to adapt the standards and provide technology and training support that are critical to this industry.”

Aziz Bamik develops and takes part in technical seminars, workshops and webinars on LNG containment systems, and participates to committees and organizations such as the Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators (SIGTTO), Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel (SGMF), and National Fire Protection Association. He is also an active member of the American Association of Port Authorities.
