China Classification Society issues the AiP Certificate of GTT NO96-L03+ Membrane Tank Cargo Containment System

2017-04-27

On 27th April 2017, a technical seminar on membrane tank technology and membrane tank LNGC was held at China Classification Society (CCS) Rules and Technology center (Shanghai). The AiP (Approval in Principle) certificate for the GTT NO96-L03+ system was issued by CCS during this seminar to GTT China.

In recent years, CCS and GTT have had continuous good cooperation on membrane tank LNG Carriers and especially the cargo containment systems, such as NO96, MARK III, and NO96-L03. The AiP certificate for GTT NO96-L03+ clearly demonstrates the partnership and close cooperation on membrane tank technology between GTT and CCS.

The NO96-L03+ system has been developed by GTT based on the NO96-L03 system, the AiP certificate for which was issued by CCS in 2014. The NO96-L03+ system has the same insulation thickness as the NO96-L03 system, while the intermediate insulation box with foam panel is adopted in place of plywood boxes in NO96-L03 system. The reinforced polyurethane foam panel offers a better thermal insulation performance and helps to reduce the BOR of the new system to as low as 0.1% approximately per day for large LNG carriers.

As the LNG market in China is fast-growing, the AiP certification by CCS for NO96-L03+ system is a significant milestone not only for both parties, but also for the industry of membrane LNGC in China. GTT and CCS will work together in building the future of membrane tank cargo containment systems.

Mr. Chen Shi, Director of CCS Rules and Technology Center, announced at this occasion: “We are very proud to issue the AIP to GTT for the NO96 L03+. We do believe the NO96 L03+ technology have a bright future in China and will be implemented in a near future, which will be the world first ever”.

Several officials and experts from the industry, including Hudong-Zhonghua Shipping Building (Group) Co., Ltd., China National Petroleum Corporation, COSCO Shipping LNG Investment (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., and Pacific Gas Ship Management (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. attended the event.
